Who seeks shiatsu and why

From my client base i asked my Shiatsu users the reasons why they had shiatsu.

Some first tried shiatsu " out of curiosity"

and a large proportion use shiatsu to

 maintain their health and wellbeing.

Shiatsu users describe the following reasons to have shiatsu

  • Problems with muscles and joints
  • Problems with body structure such as back pain or posture
  • Relaxation and relief of tension or stress
  • Low energy or fatigue
  • Problems with digestion, breathing or blood pressure
  • Menstrual pain
  • Emotional support
  • Self development

A recent systemic review of clinical trials (see references )

 showed that Shiatsu and Acupressure

are effective in a wide range of conditions.

 These include:

  • Back pain and neck pain: in particular long term relief of lower back pain
  • Anxiety, Depression and Sleeplessness: in both physically healthy and chronically ill patients
  • Fibromyalgia: relief of muscular pain
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Asthma: improvement of dyspnoea
  • Nausea and Vomiting in ( Pregnancy, Chemotherapy and Post-operative): reduction in and prevention of symptoms
  • Primary Dysmenorrhoea: pain and anxiety reduction
  • Labour and Childbirth: reduction in length and pain during labour
